Tonka (fuel)

Tonka is the name of several originally developed in the Third Reich rocket fuels. In North Korea and the former Soviet Union, the designation TG -02 is used.

The name of the fuel is derived from the tonka bean.

Variants and composition

  • Tonka - 250: 50 % triethylamine and 50 % xylidine
  • Tonka -500: 35 % isomeric octanes, 20 % of benzene including xylenes, 12% xylidines, 10 % aniline, 10 % methyl, ethyl amine 8%, 5% methylamine
  • R- fabric: 57% xylidine (2,4- xylidine ) and 43 % triethylamine

Application

Tonka has been used in the rocket:

  • Ruhrstahl X-4
  • AS-4
  • AS -5 Kelt
  • AS -6 Kingfish
  • SS-N -4

The mixture is usually used tonka 250 is used together with nitric acid as the oxidant hypergolischem. Because of its hypergolic behavior it is also used as fuel for rocket engines (as with the rocket Cosmos 2 and the Scud B).
