Tonneins

Tonneins is a commune with 8866 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Lot- et- Garonne in the Aquitaine region; it belongs to the administrative district in the canton of Marmande and Tonneins whose capital it is.

Geography

The municipality is situated approximately 85 kilometers south-east of Bordeaux and 35 kilometers northwest of Agen. Neighboring municipalities are:

  • Varès in the Northeast,
  • Grateloup -Saint- Gayrand in the east,
  • Clairac in the southeast,
  • Nicole in the south,
  • Monheurt in the southwest,
  • Villeton and Lagruère in the west and
  • Fauillet in the northwest.

The small town is situated on the right bank of the river Garonne, a few miles below the confluence of its right tributary Lot.

Transport links

Tonneins will transport links provided by the department of road D813 which leads coming from Aiguillon towards Marmande. In parallel, also passes a railway line on the right bank of the Garonne. The Garonne itself is not to be considered in this section as a traffic route since the Lateral Canal à la Garonne ( German: Canal de Garonne ), which runs on the other bank of the Garonne, has pulled the now already very low freight itself. The river itself is navigable only for small fishing and pleasure boats.
