Tony Asher

Tony Asher ( born 1939 in London) is an American music lyricist. He was known for his work on the Beach Boys album Pet Sounds.

Asher learned in childhood to play the piano and studied journalism. After completing his studies, he took in the advertising industry foot and served there as a copywriter. With various partners, he composed a short commercial jingles for products and TV series and created numerous jingles for radio. With Roger Nichols He wrote several songs for the Carpenters.

In 1965 he got from Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys the offer to work as a copywriter at the Pet Sounds project. This created songs like God Only Knows, and more. Asher has been obliged by Wilson to take his thoughts and ideas into words. After Pet Sounds Asher did not occur as a copywriter in appearance. It was only in 1996, when Asher and Wilson for 30th anniversary of Pet Sounds met again, the two began again spontaneously to work together and wrote some songs. Two of these songs - " This Is not Love" and " Everything I Need " were published.

Asher now lives with his wife and son in Los Angeles.
