Tony Award for Best Special Theatrical Event

Since 2001, the Award for Best Theatre Event ( Best Special Theatrical Event ) will be awarded at the Tony Awards. The category was created because of a dispute because 2000 Contact won Best Musical, the show but using pre-recorded music and no singing had. In the years 1999 and 2000, a Special Tony was assigned as a Special Tony Award For a Live Theatrical Presentation. 2004, 2006 and 2008, no prize was awarded in this category.
