Tony Gunawan

Tony Gunawan ( born April 9, 1975 in Surabaya, Indonesia) is an Indonesian badminton player who starts for the U.S. Badminton Association since 2002.

Sporting career

Gunawan won the 1997 his first tournaments. In 2000 he was with Candra Wijaya Olympic doubles competition for Indonesia, and in 2001 with Halim Haryanto for Indonesia and 2005 with Howard Bach for the U.S. world champion in doubles. Overall, the doubles specialist won with changing players 35 doubles and five mixed trophy. Around the turn of the millennium he was with various partners world ranking first in doubles. He is considered one of the best badminton doubles players of his generation.

Gunawan 2002 went to the United States to work as a trainer and take an IT degree, he took a job as a coach at the Orange County Badminton Club and no longer played so many tournaments; Gunawan joined the U.S. federation and found with the born in Vietnam Howard Bach a doubles partner, with whom he was preparing for the 2005 World Championships in his new home, Los Angeles and win a world championship title for the country for the first time in the history of the U.S. badminton could, the double was honored as U.S. Team of the Year 2005 by the American NOK for this service
