Tony Hall, Baron Hall of Birkenhead

William Anthony "Tony" Hall, CBE ( born March 3, 1951 in Birkenhead, Merseyside ) is a British media and cultural managers and Life Peer. From 2001 to 2012, he was director of the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. On November 22, 2012, he was appointed as the new Director General of the BBC, April 2, 2013, took the place. He succeeds the retiring George Entwistle.

Life

Hall attended Birkenhead School, a co-educational private school in the county of Merseyside in the North West of Britain, and the Keble College, University of Oxford, where he became a interdisciplinary studies in philosophy, politics and economics ( Philosophy, Politics and Economics, PPE ) completed.

After graduating, he went in 1973 as a trainee for the BBC. In 1984 he was Senior Producer of the Six O'Clock News, in 1985 editor of the 9 O 'Clock News. Other offices and honors

In April 2004, Hall was chairman of Creative & Cultural Skills, a newly established Council under the auspices of the British economy and network to promote and develop professional skills in the cultural and artistic sector.

By May 2000, he was Chairman of the Royal Television Society.

Hall was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2005.
