Tony Killeen

Tony Killeen (Irish Ó Antóin Cillín, born June 9, 1952 in Corofin, County Clare ) is an Irish Fianna Fáil politician and from March 2010 to January 2011 Defence Minister of Ireland.

Biography

Killeen, who was a teacher by profession at a state school ( National School ), began his national political career as a candidate of the Fianna Fáil in 1992 with the election of deputies ( Teachta Dala ) of the lower house ( Dáil Éireann ) and represents in this after three subsequent re- elections since the constituency of Clare.

During his membership in parliament, he was first of 18 December 1997 to 2002 Chairman of the House Committee on matters concerning members and then of 7 November 2002 to 16 December 2004 of the House Committee on Education and Science.

On 29 September 2004 he was nominated for Enterprise, Trade and Employment of Taoiseach (Prime Minister ) Bertie Ahern, Minister of State in the Ministry and thus took his first position as " junior ministers " in a government. Subsequently, he was between 20 June 2007 12 May 2008 Increasing Government Minister in the Ministries of Environment, Heritage and Local Government as well as for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources with responsibilities for environment and energy during this time. After that, he was Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, and was there responsible for fisheries and forestry.

On 23 March 2010 he finally summoned Prime Minister Brian Cowen as defense minister in his cabinet.
