Tony Marshall (singer)

Tony Marshall ( born February 3, 1938 in Baden -Baden as Herbert Anton Bloeth; civil Herbert Anton Hilger ) is a German pop and opera singer.

Life and work

Tony Marshall was born in 1938 as Herbert Anton Bloeth; he changed his last name before the birth of his first child in Hilger. In 1965 he passed his state examination as an opera singer at the Karlsruhe Musikhochschule. He was in 1971 with the success produced by the composer Jack White song Beautiful Maid known. Actually, he did not sing the song, so he had drunk tipsy before shooting Chianti. He hoped Jack White would throw him out of the studio. He initially agreed because its first ambitious drive was a flop, but he needed the money for his family. The plate whose melody was originally a traditional Tahitian is ( Nau Haka Taranga ), has sold more than one million times in the same year. Overall, the song sold to date, over three million copies worldwide ( in the U.S. and in Australia under the title Pretty Maid ) and was awarded six gold records.

Marshall was then on to the " good-mood of the nation" and was one of the top entertainers in Germany. He went on tours around the world (Japan, Africa, Canada, USA, among others). In 1976 he won with The Star the German preliminary decision to Euro Vision Song Contest; the song was short but disqualified it because the Israeli singer Nice Thobi it had previously sung in public, which was contrary to the competition rules.

2003 Tony Marshall Way in Baden -Baden was named after him. 2004 Tony Marshall celebrated its 50th anniversary on stage. 2005 played the trained opera singer in Frankfurt folk theater the role of Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof Musical, 2008, Papageno in The Magic Flute. In the same year he was appointed because of his eponymous hits from the year 1978 an honorary citizen of Bora Bora, after he was awarded in 2007 with the Munchausen Prize of the City Bodenwerder. How 2012 became known Marshall suffers from a polyneuropathy, which leads at times to paralysis in the legs. In March 2012, he had reason to cancel a concert. However, contrary to popular term " drinkers leg " an excessive consumption of alcohol is only one of many possible causes of polyneuropathy.

Family

In 1962 he married his childhood friend. He has two sons, Marc Marshall ( b. 1963 ) and Pascal (1967 ), and a daughter, Stella ( b. 1979 ). Pascal and Marc were already in childhood with him on stage and are now both successful in the music business operates, as part of the duo Marc Marshall & Alexander.

With his daughter Stella, who suffers from cerebral palsy and epilepsy since birth, Tony Marshall founded in December 1999, the " Tony Marshall Foundation ", which among other projects for people with disabilities specifically the creation of disabled people living and jobs and assumes the construction of facilities to aid the handicapped.
