Tony Rickardsson

Tony Rickardsson ( born August 17, 1970 in Avesta ) is a Swedish speedway rider.

Rickardsson among the most successful speedway riders in the world. He holds together with the New Zealander Ivan Mauger 's record of six individual World Cup titles. On 1 August 2006 Rickardsson announced that he will contest due to a concussion, which he had sustained in a race of the year, no further competitions more.

Life

Initially Rickardsson was also interested in ice hockey and played as team captain of a club the Dalarna region. Was no longer to deal with than the time required for two sports he decided to Speedway. Then began a meteoric career. Even at 20 he was Swedish champion and a year later he won the silver medal in the individual championship. His first world title win was Rickardsson 1994 at age 24. This was followed by five more World Individual Championships in the years 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002 and 2005.

Rickardsson won several world titles for doubles and teams. In addition, he was at various national championships at the top of the podium. He drove in most years of his career for the Swedish club Masarna and also for a Polish club.

For his achievements Tony Rickardsson was 1999, the Svenska Dagbladet Gold Medal - 2005 and the grand prize of the Swedish TV - Radio sports editors ( Jerringpris ). Tony Rickardsson is an honorary citizen of the city of Tarnów in Poland (German: Tarnów ) since 2006.
