Tony Ryan

Tony Ryan ( born February 2, 1936 in Thurles, County Tipperary, † October 3, 2007 in Celbridge, County Kildare ) was an Irish entrepreneur. With his idea of extremely affordable and efficient air travel deals he revolutionized the passenger traffic.

Life

Tony Ryan worked in his early years at Aer Lingus. His first steps as an entrepreneur, he undertook the formation of a leasing company with which he rented aircraft from the Aer Lingus fleet in the less severe winter months. He founded numerous other companies in the aviation industry and sold the most profitable again. He was founder of the " Guinness Peat Aviation » (GPA ). Along with Christy Ryan and Liam Lonergan in 1985 he founded the airline Ryanair. Tony Ryan was one of the richest Irish entrepreneurs and were conducted in a statement to the Sunday Times with a billion- assets in the top ten of the Rich List 2007. In order to save on taxes he had his residence in Monte Carlo. Tony Ryan last lived in Ardclough ( Kildare ).

Ryan received an honorary doctorate from several universities, including Trinity College in Dublin, the National University of Ireland, Galway and University of Limerick.

At the time of his death he owned 16% of the airline Tiger Airways, a Singapore-based budget airline, founded in December 2003.

Tony Ryan died on 3 October 2007 at the age of 71 after a long illness. A few weeks later, died on 20 December 2007 after a short illness at the age of 48 years, his son Cathal.
