Tony Scott (musician)

Tony Scott ( * as Anthony Sciacca June 17, 1921 in Morristown, New Jersey; † 28 March 2007 ) was an American jazz musician (clarinet, saxophone, electronics, composition).

Life and work

Scott was born the son of Sicilian immigrants in New Jersey, sang from the age of 7 years and had success as an instrument impersonator. He studied from 1939 to 1942 at the Juilliard School in New York, then the composer Stefan Wolpe. He soon found to Jazz, was impressed with the ballads Ben Webster and the improvisations of Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker ( "He's my idol "). In 1941, he already took part in the bebop sessions at Minton 's Playhouse. During his three years of military service he played in Big Bands, Swing formations, but also Dixieland bands.
