Toomas Savi

Toomas Savi ( born December 30 1942 in Tartu) is an Estonian politician. He is a member of the 6th European Parliament since 2004.

Training

Toomas Savi graduated in 1970 his studies in medicine at the University of Tartu. In 1975, he took off a second exam in sports psychology. From 1970 to 1980 Savi worked as a physician, in addition to 1979 as a senior research associate. From 1979 to 1993 he was head of the sports clinic in Tartu. In addition, he was employed in Finnish hospitals in Kuopio and Kajaani.

Politician

Shortly before the Wiederlangung the Estonian independence Savi went into politics. From 1989 to 1993, 1996 /97 and 1999/2000 he was a member of the city council of Tartu. From 1993 to 1995 he held the position of Deputy Mayor of Tartu.

Since 1994, Savi is a member of the liberal Estonian Reform Party ( Reformierakond ). 1995 Toomas Savi as a deputy in the Estonian parliament ( Riigikogu ) was chosen. From 1995 to 2003 he was President of the Parliament and the 2003/2004 Vice- President of the Parliament. In spring 2004, Savi was chosen as the Estonian deputy in the European Parliament, where he is the only member of his party. He is also a member of its Development Committee and the second President of the Delegation for relations with Canada.

Sports

Toomas Savi, 1989 was a co-founder of the Estonian Olympic Committee and since 1999 Chairman of the Estonian Ski Association.
