TOP 09

TOP 09 is a political party in the Czech Republic, which was founded in June 2009 by the former chairman of the KDU- CSL Miroslav Kalousek. The abbreviation stands for TOP Tradice, odpovědnost, Prosperita ( German: tradition, responsibility, prosperity ). The TOP 09 is understood programmatically as a conservative center-right party, where she populist demands issued a clear rejection.

History

Kalousek, who had considered this step as early as the fall of the government Topolánek II in March 2009, the foundation took place immediately after the election Cyril Svoboda, a representative of the left wing, the new chairman of the standing in the middle between the two major parties KDU- CSL ( Christian and Democratic Union - Czechoslovak people's Party). Many representatives of the right wing, among them the former Defence Minister Vlasta Parkanová, then also left the KDU- CSL and joined the TOP 09 at. In addition, could be obtained for the transfer with František Laudat also a member of parliament from the larger Civic Democratic Party ODS. Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg, who was considered one of the most popular politicians in the Czech Republic and previously was a member of Občanská demokratická aliance ( Civic Alliance ), and then supported the Green Party, the new party joined. Government participation in 2010

In the 2010 general election, the party won 16.7 % of the votes (equivalent to 41 seats in the House of Representatives). The party is in the July 2010 incumbent center-right government Necas (ODS, TOP09, veci veřejné ) the Minister Karel Schwarzenberg ( Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister ), Miroslav Kalousek (Finance), Jaromír Drábek ( Labour and Social Affairs ), Leoš Heger (health) and Jiří Besser (Culture), which was replaced in December 2011 after allegations of corruption by the non-party Alena Hanáková. Labour Minister Drábek resigned end of October 2012, after his deputy was arrested on corruption charges. He was followed by former senator Ludmila Mullerova. The government of the TOP 09 ended in July 2013 after the resignation Necas by the Office of the Prime Minister.

Presidential Elections 2013

In the presidential elections in 2013 went to its chairman Karel Schwarzenberg for the Top 09. Although he was not counted in the polls for the favorite, it was 23.4% in the first round just behind Miloš Zeman. In the runoff, however, won Zeman with 54.8% to 45.2%.

General Election 2013

In the early House of Representatives elections, 2013 the party came back with Karel Schwarzenberg as the leading candidate. Although the TOP 09 lost 4.71 % to hit only to 11.99 % and 26 out of 200 seats. Nevertheless, it was the voters punished far less than the previous partner in the center -right government Necas.
