Top of the World (ride)

Top of the World is the highest ever built portable observation tower and at the same time with a total height of 95 m and the highest ever built transportable ride.

Top of the World is a so-called gyro- Tower, namely the passenger cabin rotates at the up and down movement around the tower. The maximum ride height of the car is 72 m with a capacity of 132 people. Was built, the tower of the Dutch firm Nauta Bussink for the Bremer showman Finnendahl.

At its premiere at the Christmas market in 1995 in Berlin- Friedrichshain it came by the cooling process to an incident, which was stylized by the press to a spectacular accident. In this incident due to the cold blocked the drive of the tower and the safety brakes locked on an automatic or Abwährtsfahrt the passenger carrier. Using a manual release and discharge apparatus of the passenger carrier was then let down "by hand". It came to the slippage of the supporting cable and the cable sagged a few inches and bounced up to the podium. In this crash some passengers were injured. It did not know how to read in the press of the time, a crash of the cab from a great height.
