Topical stamp collecting

Motif Philately or thematic philately is concerned with the collection of stamp designs and their exploration. Is collected philatelic material, mostly across countries on specific topics. Examples of such collections are about aviation or sports. Among them are a number of much accumulated issues that can be put together, each with a different focus or under other aspects, however. Collectibles addition Stamps also evidence (letters, postal stationery, maximum cards ) or Postmark with motifs. In contrast to classical collections countries this is usually not the completeness of the goal. Normally, such collections are not sorted chronologically, but much more subdivided according to their own criteria. There are special regulations to this for exhibits of philatelic exhibitions.

History

The first stamp collectors were mostly general collector so they collected all ever appear stamps in the world. With an increasing number of postage stamps it came mostly to a specialization on certain postal areas and only gradually, the motif Philately developed.

In 1892 had an exhibition in Paris a thematically structured exhibit, early topical collections already existed in the 1920s in the Soviet Union. A big upswing took the collection area in the 1940s. Since 1949 there is in the U.S. with the American Topical Association ( ATA), an association for this purpose and in 1950 was the establishment of FIPCO (Fédération Internationale de philatélie constructive ) as an international association. The resolution of the FIPCO was decided in 1964. Instead, now the International Federation of Philately (FIP ) takes care of such concerns and has its own Commission for that purpose.
