Toppserien

The Top series is the highest division of the Norwegian women's football. The League comprises twelve teams from the 2007 season. Acting Master is Stabæk FK.

Mode

In the course of a season, each team meets twice each on any other team - once at home and once away. Thus, each team will play 22 league matches. The champion qualifies for the UEFA Women's Champions League, while the two last-place teams must descend. As is common in Scandinavia, the season runs with the calendar year.

History

1984 first official championship in the Norwegian women's football was played. It was founded a first league was divided into the groups Western Norway, Eastern Norway and Central Norway. The group winners determined in a final round of the national champion. In 1986, added a group for Northern Norway. A year later, a single-track first league was established with ten teams. In 1995, the League was renamed to Elite series. Since 2000, it reflects the new name Topp series.
