Tor Andræ

Tor Andrae ulius Efraim ( pronunciation: [ ˌ tu ː ɹ andɹe ː ], born July 9, 1885 the parish Vena, Kalmar Lan, † February 24, 1947 in Linköping ) was a Swedish historian of religion and the Lutheran Bishop of Linköping.

Tor Andrae came from a pastor's family, and studied theology at Uppsala University, where he received his doctorate and then worked as a lecturer in 1917. He became in 1927 professor of religious history at the University of Stockholm. Two years later he was appointed to the University of Uppsala. 1936 he was appointed Bishop of Linköping. In the same year he became Minister of Education in the Cabinet Axel Pehrsson - Bramstorp for a short time.

Andrae was a student of Nathan Soderblom, as his successor, he was inducted into the Svenska academies in 1932. In 1935 he was elected academies in the Kungliga och Antikvitets Vitterhets history. As a historian of religion was particularly interested in the early history of Islam, especially its Jewish and Christian roots, the psychology of religion in general, and Islamic mysticism.
