Torano Nuovo

Torano Nuovo is a municipality with 1660 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) and is located near Ancarano and Nereto in the province of Teramo.

Geography

Among the districts ( fractions) are Petrella, Valle Santa Maria and Villa Bizzarri.

The neighboring municipalities are Ancarano, Controguerra, Nereto, Sant'Egidio alla Vibrata and Sant'Omero.

History

The name of the village derives from the Latin Turan, or Turris -Torre. Among the oldest buildings include the San Massimo church from the 11th century. It originally belonged to the Abbey of Montecassino.

Specialty

In the surroundings of the village vines of Montepulciano are grown for the DOC wine Montepulciano d'Abruzzo.
