Tord Gustavsen

Tord Gustavsen ( born October 5, 1970 in Oslo) is a Norwegian jazz pianist.

Life and career

Born in 1970 in Oslo, Gustavsen applicable in the jazz scene in his home country as one of the most active and influential musicians of recent years. Outside of Norway, he was initially known primarily for his work with Silje Nergaard a wider audience.

He also plays with bassist Harald Johnsen and drummer Jarle Vespestad Tord Gustavsen Trio in the named after him since the late 1990s. The much acclaimed debut album, Changing Places was released on the ECM label in 2003. Two years later, The Ground, which was the first instrumental jazz album climbed to number one on the Norwegian charts and also in the USA in the top 10 on the Billboard Top Jazz Album landed. In April 2007, the album Being There appeared. According to Gustavsen it marks the completion of a trilogy.

Since 2008, Gustavsen operates under the name Tord Gustavsen Ensemble with flexible appointments as a duo, trio or quartet. For the regular cast include Tore Brunborg (saxophone ), Mats Eilertsen (bass) and Jarle Vespestad (drums). Depending on the package it is extended by Kristin Asbjørnsen (vocals), Cecilie Jørstad ( readings) and Rune Arnesen (drums). Originating from the ensemble is a commissioned work for the Vossajazz Festival 2008. Together with the existing of Gustavsen, Tore Brunborg, Jarle Vespestad and Mats Eilertsen Tord Gustavsen Quartet 2012 was the album The Well.
