Torgu Parish

Torgu ( German Torken ) is a rural municipality in the Estonian Saare County with an area of ​​126.44 km ². It has 346 inhabitants ( 2010).

Torgu is located at the southern tip of the island of Saaremaa. The municipality is located on the peninsula of Sõrve ( German: Sworbe ). In addition to the administrative headquarters Iide the country parish includes the villages Hänga, Jämaja, Kaavi, Kargi, Karuste, Kaunispe, Laadla, Lindmetsa, Lõopõllu, Läbara, Lülle, Maanteeküla, Mõisaküla, Mõntu, Mäebe, Mässa, Ohessaare, Soodevahe, Sääre ( German: Zerel ), Tammuna and Türju.

The landscape on the peninsula Sõrve (total length 32 km, maximum width 10 km) is interesting for nature lovers and hiking tourists. In 1944 Sõrve devastating battles between the Wehrmacht and the Red Army were held. It now recall some preserved military buildings and a Soviet memorial.
