History

The aboveground station was opened in 1848, due to the strong development of Turin to the west. He was still in front of the Porta Nuova railway station with routes to Milan and was also used by long-distance trains since time immemorial. 2006 was built under the station a station of the metro Turin, which, however, only in September 2011 went into operation. The aboveground station was closed in 2009.

The first two tracks of the tunnel station have already been opened in 2008, after the above-ground part was closed, took two more tracks of the Torino Porta Susa sotterranea said station to the operation. Reason for the conversion was the relocation of the route within the city into the ground. The last two tracks went into operation in early 2013 and Porta Susa replaced the Porta Nuova train station in Turin as the main railway station, as here ( especially in the transportation from / to Paris or Genoa) no change of direction is needed. The new tunnel station covered a 300 -meter-long steel and glass structure whose design by French architects Arep comes. The 55 million euro project was fully supported by the FS- infrastructure company Rete Ferroviaria Italiana.
