Torkil Nielsen
Torkil Nielsen ( born January 26, 1964 in Sandavágur ) is one of the best chess players in the Faroe Islands, and posted as a football player in 1990 match between the Faroe Islands and Austria the 1-0 winning goal.

Clubs
Nielsen began his career at SIF Sandavágur, for which he was active from 1984 to 1993. In the years 1989, 1990 and 1992 he played with this club in the first division, in 1991 Nielsen could win with 13 goals the title of the scorer in the second division. In 1994 he moved to the second division FS Vágar, for which he was active until the end of career. In the first season the team reached the second place, which resulted in the highest Faroese league to Ascension. There, he scored the next three Jahrem to the regulars. After the first season, which was completed in sixth place, the club finished in 1996 only the last place, which led to the relegation matches against second- placed teams from the second division, EB / Streymur, result. National
Nielsen made his debut for the Faroese national team on August 24, 1988 in a friendly against Iceland in Akranes, which was lost with 0:1. This was also the first game in the Faroe Islands to the FIFA membership in 1988. In the second game he succeeded with the 1-0 win over Canada in a friendly on April 14, 1989 in Tórshavn his first goal in the fourth minute of the game, which at the same time the Final as well as the first official victory of the national mean.
When soccer match Faroe Islands - Austria 1990 he gained in his home as well as in Austria great fame when he scored his goal for a 1-0 victory in the first sensation qualifications international game of his country at all. His last game he completed on 16 June 1993 in the qualifying match for the 1994 World Cup against Czechoslovakia, which was lost in Toftir 0:3.

1992 Nielsen led two games of the second division as a referee, the first on 13 Matchday between SÍ Sørvágur and HB Tórshavn II in 2005 came another game in the premier league of women.
Chess
Today Nielsen sits on the board of the local chess club Sandavágs Talvfelag (ST ) and is an active player in the national championships. His current Elo rating is 2137 (as of January 2014) and is consequently in the 17th place of the Faroese Elo ranking. His previous highest Elo rating of 2205, he reached in January and July 1983 and January 1985 to July 1986, he led so in January 1983, July 1983 ( in each case together with Jens Christian Hansen, Joan Paetur Midjord and Suni Ziska ) and January 1985 (together with Midjord ) to the Faroese rating list. In the Chess Olympiads in 1982, 1984 and 1988 Nielsen played on the fourth board of the Faroese team and reaching a total of 17 ½ points from 35 games.
Personal
By profession, Nielsen is timber merchant. His son Rógvi Egilstoft Nielsen ( * 1992) plays for 07 Vestur that were founded as the successor club of FS Vágar.
