Toronto Islands

The Toronto Islands are a located in the metropolitan area of Toronto Islands. At the same time, the islands form their own neighborhood in Old Toronto district ( Downtown Core ). The archipelago is located south of Harbourfront. The islands have only existed since 1858 - during a heavy storm, the pre-existing peninsula was separated by the tidal waves of the Don River from the mainland.

Recreation Park

Beaches

There are several beaches on the island, which you can use, including the Centre Iceland Beach, Manitou Beach, Gibraltar Point Beach, Hanlan 's Point Beach and Ward's Iceland Beach.

Yacht clubs

On the island there are four yacht clubs: Harbour City Yacht Club, Iceland Yacht Club, Queen City Yacht Club and the Royal Canadian Yacht Club. In addition, several smaller clubs such as the Toronto Iceland Sailing Club, the Sunfish Cut Boat Club and the Toronto Iceland Canoe Club. It will be held the Toronto International Dragon Boat Race Festival annually.

Community

On the island there is a small community with about 260 homes, which are concentrated mainly in the eastern region near Ward's and Algonquin Iceland Iceland. Under the validity of the Toronto Islands Residential Community Stewardship Act strict legal requirements apply, regulate the buying and selling of these homes. Airport

Ferries

There is no direct connection to the mainland Canada; which makes the use of ferries and water taxis required. There are three ferry services between the mainland and the islands. They carry passengers and vehicles from the central harbor Toronto and ride the island ports Hanlan 's Point, Centre Iceland Park and Ward's to Iceland. They are used both by tourists and by local residents. The fourth ferry service offers vehicle and passenger transport from the port on the mainland, in the Bathurst Street, to the regional airport on the island. There is no direct access to the airport within the island; it is accessible only by ferry. Furthermore, several yacht clubs operate their own transportation service for members and tourists.

Transport infrastructure

The roads on the island are all paved. The use of the roads has been restricted to motorized traffic through the city to keep the noise in check. On the island of bicycles can be borrowed. There is a bus network that connects all major places together and is available for tourists and residents.
