Toronto Jazz Festival

The TD Toronto Jazz Festival is a yearly since 1987 takes place forming to ten days in late June and early July in Toronto International Jazz Festival. Organizer is the non-profit organization Toronto Downtown Jazz; the musical direction was from its founding to 2009, Jim Galloway.

The venues are at 40 places spread all over the city with an emphasis on Nathan Phillips Square in downtown Toronto. The festival annually attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors. Some of the performances are free.

Here were jazz musicians such as Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Sarah Vaughan, Cab Calloway, Ray Charles, Oscar Peterson, Dave Brubeck, Sonny Rollins, Sun Ra, Pat Metheny, Wynton Marsalis, Herbie Hancock, Stan Getz, Keith Jarrett, Wynton Marsalis, Diana Krall.

Until the ban on tobacco advertising, it was Du Maurier Jazz Festival. The proposed TD comes from the sponsor Toronto Dominion Bank.

It follows the North by Northeast festival in Toronto in June. In July, a ten-day Toronto Beaches Jazz Festival ( Beaches International Jazz Festival) follows in the quarter The Beaches on Lake Ontario.
