Toronto Lynx

The Toronto Lynx are a football club based in Toronto ( Canada). The club was founded in 1997 and plays in the USL Premier Development League, the fourth-highest league in North American football.

History

The club began in 1997 in the A-League, the then second division. In the very first season introduced the club to a league record with ten consecutive wins. In 2000, the Lynx missed the finals by a 1-0 defeat in the Conference Final against the Rochester Raging Rhinos.

On 10 October 2006, the club announced the voluntary withdrawal of the USL First Division in the USL Premier Development League, where the club into the Great Lakes Division of the Central Conference were divided. This was due to the low number of spectators ( The Lynx had the lowest average attendance of the league ) and the new competition of Major League Soccer club Toronto FC.

Stadium

Since 2002, the club plays in the Centennial Park Stadium in Etobicoke. Previously, the club played at Varsity Stadium, which was demolished in 2002.

Women's Soccer

In October 2004, the club established a women's team. The " Toronto Lady Lynx" play in 2005 in the W- League.
