Torre di Ruggiero

Torre di Ruggiero is an Italian town in the province of Catanzaro in Calabria with 1095 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Location and data

Torre di Ruggiero is located 56 km southwest of Catanzaro at the foot of Monte Cucco. The neighboring municipalities are Capistrano (VV), Cardinale, Chiaravalle Centrale, San Nicola da Crissa (VV), Simbario (VV) and Vallelonga (VV). The districts are case Incenzo and Sign.

Attractions

Worth seeing is the historical center. The palace of the prince Filangieri dates from the 18th century. Near the village there are two ruins of former Basilian monasteries. The parish church of Maria Santissima delle Grazie collapsed during the earthquake in 1783. It was rebuilt in 1858 and is today a place of pilgrimage.
