Torsö

Torsö ( Thor Island ) is the name of the largest island in the Swedish lake Vänern. Torsö has an area of ​​about 62 km2. Administratively, the island belongs to the municipality of Mariestad.

Today's Torsö island is actually a combination of two smaller islands, namely the island Torsö original and Fågelö. These were united by embankments in the late 19th century to the present island. Since 1994 Torsö is connected by the Torsöbro ( Torsöbrücke ) to the mainland. Previously a ferry from the port of Sundsören had established a connection to the island.

Torsö is an archipelago of islands in Lake Vänern. Other islands off Mariestad Brommö ( small wooden bridge betw Fågelö and Brommö ) Dillö, Onsö, Kalvöarna.
