Tortell

A Tortell is a Christmas cookie from Catalonia. It is a ring-shaped pastry filled with almond paste and is sometimes topped with glazed fruit.

The Tortell traditionally, the Christian feast of the Epiphany on January 6 served. This date coincides with the end of the twelve days of Christmas, and is celebrated as the Day of the Three Kings.

A Tortell de Reis ( "King cake " ) contains two small surprises inside: On the one hand a dried broad bean and the other, a small figurine of the same size. The person who finds the figurine in their piece of pastry can, put a paper crown. The person who finds the dried bean, paid the Tortell. The same tradition is known in the rest of Spain as Roscón de Reyes. This is the Spanish version of the Epiphany cake, which is available in several countries.
