TortoiseSVN

TortoiseSVN (of tortoise [ tɔ təs ː ] in English: Tortoise, abbreviated tsvn ) is a free client for the version management utility Subversion. It is under the GNU General Public License ( GPL) and used in the logo is a turtle.

TortoiseSVN is implemented as a shell extension, it integrates in the Windows Explorer and is therefore outside and independently of an Integrated Development Environment ( IDE) used.

As a core task the version, revision and source control is described for the software. To use a Subversion server is recommended, but it is also possible to locally access repositories.

The project was started in 2002 by Tim Kemp as a fork of TortoiseCVS. SourceForge recorded more than seven million downloads of the software in August 2008. The developers talk in her blog of over nine million downloads to April 2008, all packages since project start. Functions

Tortoise used as a graphical interface to the Windows Explorer. Expansion of the command list in the context menu serves as a user interface. The status is displayed directly in the explorer by a column extension.
