Toscolano-Maderno

Toscolano -Maderno is a municipality with 8093 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Brescia, in Lombardy. The municipality is located on the western shore of Lake Garda in 1928 and consists of the merged cities Toscolano and Maderno, which are separated by the stream Toscolano. There is a year-round ferry service to Torri del Benaco.

History

In the medieval era Maderno was a town that had a large political and administrative importance. In the 17th and 18th century, the dukes of Mantua had their summer residence in the Gonzaga Palace and Villa del Serraglio. Ever since the 14th century had paper and other factories based in Toscolano. In the gorge of the small river " Toscolano " there is a hiking trail through the historic valley of the paper mills.

1902 Toscalano received trace connection to the tram route Brescia Salò - Gargnano. 1921 Line extension was inaugurated on Maderno to Gargnano, but set the operation on this part as early as 1933 again. Only one year later also the stretch Salo - Toscalano was shut down.
