Toshiyuki Takano

Toshiyuki Takano (Japanese高 野 纪元, Takano Toshiyuki, born 1944 in Japan) is a Japanese diplomat. From 2005 to 2008 he was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan in the Federal Republic of Germany. Since 2008, Takahiro Shin'yo has held this position.

Biography

Takano completed a course of study at the University of Tokyo. In 1967 he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and served since then in various positions in the Foreign Service. He was appointed in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ( gaimu - shingikan, position below the Secretaries of State ) for Political Affairs ( seimu tanto ) for junior Minister in 2001. In the course of his duties as ambassador, it led him to Singapore, South Korea and Germany. He then worked as a consultant to the Nikkei company Itochu.

Controversy

In February 2005, Takano sparked controversy by announcing publicly that the Liancourt Rocks in the Sea of ​​Japan " historically and legally " belong to Japan, although they are under South Korean administration. Both countries collect up today territorial claims to this island group.
