Toshokan Sensō

Toshokan Sensō (Japanese図 书馆 戦 争, dt " Library War " ) is a light novel series of the Japanese author Hiro Arikawa, illustrated by Adabana Sukumo. The work from the years 2006 and 2007 was adapted as an anime and manga.

Action

In 1989, the Japanese government passes a law providing for the censorship to protect the public from harmful media. To check the law, a committee is established. However, some local governments oppose the decision and set up a force that is supposed to protect the contents of the libraries from being censored by the members of government committees.

In 2019, the young Iku Kasahara occurs (笠原 郁) at the library defense unit of Kanto. After her training, she is part of the Task Force that protects the books of the library and other gathers.

Publication

The light novel was published from February 2006 to November 2007 in at MediaWorks. The chapters published in four volumes. A spin-off entitled Bessatsu Toshokan Sensō (别 册 図 书馆 戦 争) was published in April 2008, followed by a second in August 2008.

Adaptations

Manga

An adaptation of the light novel as manga under the title appears Sensō Toshokan: Love & War (図 书馆 戦 争LOVE & WAR) since September 2007 in the magazine LaLa the publisher Hakusensha. The drawing is done by implementing Kiiro Yumi. The individual chapters also appeared in the previous two anthologies.

A second manga appears as Toshokan Sensō: Spitfire! (図 书馆 戦 争SPITFIRE! ) Comic Dengeki Daioh magazine in at MediaWorks. Artist is Yayoi Furudori. The manga also appeared in an anthology so far.

Anime

In 2008, the studio Production IG produced and directed by Takayuki Hamana an anime television series based on the second manga. The character design designed Satoru Nakamura and the artistic director Shigemi Ikeda had stopped. The series aired from 10 April to 26 June 2008 by the Japanese station Fuji TV. Later repetitions followed by Hokkaido Cultural Broadcasting, Kansai TV, Niigata Sogo Television, Television Nishi- Nippon Corporation and Tokai TV. It was also released from 6 August to 3 December 2008 to 5 DVDs. The third DVD contains the episode Koi no Shōgai that was not aired on television.

Music

The music of the series composed by Yugo Kanno. The header title is Atashi no Machi, Ashita no Machi (あたし の 街,明日 の 街) by Hitomi Takahashi, one used changes for the end credits of Base Ball Bear.

Success

The first volume of the light novel was with over 62,000 copies sold in seventh place of the bestselling Light Novels in Japan in 2008.

The novel series has been awarded the 2008 Seiun Award in the category of Best Japanese novel.
