Tosoh

The company Toso K. K. (Japanese東ソー 株式会社, Toso Kabushiki - gaisha, Eng. Tosoh Corporation ) is a multinational corporation with headquarters in Tokyo, Japan.

The company is a leader in the chlorine and alkali metals production. The subsidiary Rin Kagaku Kogyo manufactures phosphorus flame retardants.

History

The company was founded on 11 February 1935 as SODA Kōgyō Toso KK (东洋 曹 达 工业 株式会社, dt "Far Eastern soda industry -AG " ) was founded. The name changed to its present name, Tosoh Corporation happened in 1987.

Originally the company produced mainly chlor-alkali chemicals, such as sodium carbonate, also known as caustic soda, and sodium hydroxide.

The first factory was built on the coast at Yamaguchi and is still the main production site of Tosoh Corporation. The production in this factory, the Nanyo Manufacturing complex was added in 1936. Today it is one of the largest production facilities in Japan. The site covers more than 3.7 million square feet with its own harbor and power plant.

Today the Tosoh Corporation is a global group that is listed on the Japanese stock market in the Nikkei 225 index. The product range has been continuously expanded, about fine chemicals, scientific equipment, coatings to quartz materials. The Tosoh Group comprises the world where more than 11,000 employees generated sales of 8.4 billion U.S. dollars, more than 130 companies.

In 2007, a total fine of 243.2 million euros in fines against the companies Bayer, Denka, DuPont, Dow Chemical, ENI and Tosoh because they have participated in a chloroprene rubber cartel, the European Commission. Tosoh had thereby pay a fine of 4.8 million euros.
