Total Access Communication System

Total Access Communication System ( TACS ) is a standard for analogue mobile telephony. TACS is the European version of AMPS. ETACS is an enhanced version of TACS with more channels. TACS and ETACS in Europe were replaced by GSM. In the UK, the last ETACS network of Vodafone on 31 May 2001 has been turned off. It had been 16 years in operation. In Italy there was a TACS network of TIM in Austria operated the Post and Telegraph Administration a TACS network ( D-net ). This was operated by the restructuring and privatization of the Post of the Mobilkom Austria on. In Germany there was no mobile networks that use this standard, here the so-called C-net was used.
