Total!

The total (own spelling TOTAL! ) Was an independent magazine that dealt with the video game system from Nintendo. It appeared monthly in the period from June 1993 to December 2000 to last retail price of 6.80 DM Large parts of the editorial staff were editorially also responsible for the video game magazines gamers, the former German -speaking Gamepro ( the editorial with the current GamePro IDG Publishing has nothing to do ) and Next Level. None of the magazines is longer in production.

The naming rights were purchased by an English magazine of the same name. Nevertheless, it was in the German TOTAL! never a pure translation magazine as it gives them time and again in the commercial, but from the beginning was a magazine with an independent editorial work. The German version survived the British name of donor as much as 4 years. However, it was never clarified, as should be the correct / official articulation of the title ( either English or German pronunciation ).

The magazine was characterized mainly by sound reports and a rating system for video games from, which was based on the school grading system, and tried to separate objective from subjective evaluations.

Shortly before completion of TOTAL! Edition 12/1995 learned the editors that the MVL -Verlag was forced to declare bankruptcy. Although this is not the success of the TOTAL! lay, the December issue of the year no longer appeared in 1995. Eleven former employees of the MVL -Verlag then founded with the X -Plain - publishing a new company and led the TOTAL! under own initiative already with the issue 1/1996 back on.

Due to the sagging game development for the Nintendo 64 in the late 90s and the ever growing competition from video game publications on the Internet, the publication was terminated without any notice.
