Totentanz (Liszt)

The Totentanz, Paraphrase on " Dies irae ", is a symphonic variation cycle of Franz Liszt for solo piano and orchestra, which is a topic of Gregorian chant, the Dies Irae (Lat, about: Day of Wrath ), with the theme dance of Death connects.

The work was written in 1849 and has been revised several times in the following years by Liszt, in 1853 and 1859 with particular intensity. In 1865 the first performance with Hans von Bülow as soloist, which is dedicated the piece.
