Toupie Lowther

Toupie Lowther (also Toupee Lowther ) was an English tennis player around the turn of the century in 1900.

Life

1901 Lowther won the German Championships in Bad Homburg, after they had in 1898 reached the final there. At the Wimbledon Championships in 1903 and 1906 before they came to the semifinals. She was also in 1900, 1902 and 1903 successfully with the British Indoor Championships.

Lowther has also been described as an excellent fencer. In addition, she contributed a chapter to the 1903 published book of the brothers Laurence and Reginald Doherty. In it they complained about the cumbersome, then usual, reaching to the floor dresses that were responsible in large part for the losing game of the ladies, and proposes to shorten the dress to the ankle, if it is not unsightly thick.
