Tour of Romania

The Tour of Romania (Romanian turul Ciclist al României ) is a Romanian cycling race.

In 1931 the Federatia Română de Ciclism, the Romanian Cycling Federation was founded, whose president Vasile Canarache, the owner of the Bucharest newspaper Tempo, three years later organized the first Tour of Romania. The stage race, which his appointment is usually mid-June, and mostly comprises six or more stages, but was then not held every year. In the years after the Romanian Revolution of 1989 have seen increased financing problems which meant that the racing sections were transferred there, where the road conditions and the grants by local sponsors would allow a discharge. Since the 2008 season, the race is part of the UCI Europe Tour race series and is classified in category 2.2. Record winner are Mircea Constantin Dumitrescu Romascanu and that three were won by the race respectively.
