Tourbat

The white grape Torbato comes from Sardinia. There is, however, believed that they already arrived in the Middle Ages during the occupation of Spain to Sardinia. In France, it was formerly widespread among names Tourbat in Languedoc -Roussillon, but was almost completely disappeared at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1973, seedlings from Sardinia were reintroduced. Due to the fact that the variety is allowed in the appellation Côtes du Roussillon, Banyuls, the stocks recovered to approximately 50 acres.

On the Italian island of Sardinia it is cultivated under the name Torbato on approximately 30 acres almost exclusively in Alghero in Sassari province. From Torbato a golden, full-bodied, fragrant wine is made with a strong acid.

In the ampelography the habit is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. She is hairy white wool. The shoot tip is white greenish colored with carmine approach. The young leaves are slightly hairy and woolly yellowish-green color and bronze leaf edge.
  • The medium to large leaves are five-lobed and medium deep sinuate. The petiole is lyrenförmig open. The blade is serrated blunt. The teeth are medium in size compared to other varieties. The leaf surface (also called leaf blade ) is easily blistered structured.
  • The drum-shaped bunch is medium and loose-. The oval berries are medium in size and of a whitish color. The berries are very juicy.

The moderately vigorous vine grew matures about 30 days after Chasselas and is thus regarded as late maturing. Yields are usually high, so that through a vine training targeted a reduction in yield must be performed to achieve good wine qualities. It is susceptible to powdery mildew.
