Tourism in Slovakia

Slovakia is a still undiscovered by tourism country in many parts, with the exception of a few centers in the Tatra Mountains and the nearby Vienna located capital Bratislava.

Mountains

The alpine scenery of the Tatra is the main tourist attraction in Slovakia. To the towns of Poprad and Štrbské Pleso (see High Tatras ), there are well-developed winter sports and hiking areas with opportunities for mountain climbing.

The mostly still " untamed " rivers such as the upper Waag ( Vah ) offer whitewater rafting opportunities. Another popular form of vacation is hunting holiday in Slovakia, there are still finds an almost untouched nature here. In the country there are nine National Parks ( Tatras, Low Tatras, Pieniny, Slovak Paradise, Slovak Karst, Greater Fatra, Mala Fatra, Poloniny, Muránska planina ) and numerous nature reserves - there is hardly a mountain, which is not subject to some form of conservation.

Moreover, a high incidence of caves is characteristic of Slovakia. 13 caves are open to visitors, the largest of which - the Demänovska freedom cave - is almost 9 km long.

Stays

The most famous spa town of Piešťany Slovakia is in the west of the country, near the border with the Czech Republic. Piešťany has a long tradition as a spa. More spas are Bojnice, Brusno, Dudince, Lúčky, Sklené Teplice, Sliač, Smrdáky Trenčianske Teplice, Teplice Turčianské, Nový Smokovec, Štós, Štrbské Pleso, Tatranské Matliare, Bardejov Spa, Číž, Nimnica, Rajecké Teplice and Vyšné Ružbachy

Culture

In addition, the country has many medieval castles and palaces to offer. Among the Spis Castle ( Spiš ), which is a World Heritage Site by UNESCO since 1993.

However, Slovakia has for the culturally interested visitors to offer a lot. Due to its border location to each number of countries and by many ethnic minorities, the cities of Bratislava and Košice act very cosmopolitan, despite their small size. Add to this the typical of the former Austria -Hungarian cities " coffee house atmosphere " and the old town perfectly preserved in both cities with spectacular sights, including the Bratislava Castle. But many smaller cities are very attractive, especially since they are not yet overrun by tourists.

Infrastructure

The country is well served by a relatively dense railway network. Also, the bus network is very dense. The toll motorway and expressway network is still under construction and currently develops best the west and north of the country. Overall, it is considered auspicious and therefore provides also for example to backpackers.

By Slovakia adopts the International Mountain trail Eisenach- Budapest.
