Toussaint de Charpentier

Toussaint Charpentier ( born November 22, 1779 in Freiberg, † March 4, 1847 in Brieg ) was a geologist and entomologist.

Charpentier was the son of the geologist and Saxon mining captain Johann Friedrich Wilhelm von Charpentier and the brother of Johann von Charpentier. He studied Geology and Mining Engineering at the Mining Academy Freiberg and continued his studies at the University of Leipzig on.

In 1802, Charpentier went to Prussia, where he accepted a position at the Silesian Mining Office in Wrocław. 1806 took over the management of the Bureau of Mines Charpentier Schweidnitz until he returned to Breslau in 1811 to the Mining Office. In 1826 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina. 1828 he was transferred as Vice Captian to Dortmund. 1830 Charpentier was appointed Captian of Brandenburg's mining authority Dortmund. In 1836, he took over the management of the Silesian mining authority, which was relocated to Brieg since 1819 and remains there until his death in office in the same capacity.

Charpentier has published numerous writings on mining and geognostical issues, but also to his hobby of entomology. Here he was the editor that appeared in Erlangen 1829-1830 edition of the publications Eugenius Johann Christoph Esper European butterflies and Foreign butterflies.
