Tovarna avtomobilov Maribor
Tovarna Automobilov in Motorjev (TAM ) is a commercial vehicle brand, founded in 1946 from Slovenia. TAM vehicles are produced, based in Maribor since 2001 by the company Tovarna Vozil Maribor ( TVM).
History
TAM was founded on the initiative of the then Yugoslav Prime Minister Josip Broz Tito December 31, 1946 in Maribor. In 1947 the company began construction of trucks in the 3- ton class, as well as water-cooled petrol engines with 52 kW. The name of the first type of vehicle was " TAM Pionir ". It was built under license of the Czechoslovak manufacturer Praga. The Pionir was built in 1962 to around 1,700 copies and also exported.
From 1958 TAM built additional truck and bus model of the German brand Magirus- Deutz under license, which we also used in the Yugoslav military. It was in the truck to cover vehicles with air-cooled diesel engine under license from Klöckner- Humboldt -Deutz ( KHD). The type designations denominated TAM 5000 ( truck, 5 -ton payload, 85 hp, available with all-wheel drive ), TAM 5500 ( truck 5.5 ton payload, 125 hp), TAM 6500 ( truck 6.5 ton payload, 125 hp) TAM 110T10 (trucks, 10 tons total weight, 110 hp) and TAM 170T14 (trucks, 14 tons total weight, 170 hp).
1962 ran from the production of Praga under license. Over time, such as the TAM 6500BVL, the TAM and TAM 110T7BV also own constructions were added, 150T11BV 6x6 (all cab-over truck with air-cooled engine in KHD license).
In the period after the Second World War TAM, next to FAP, Yugoslavia leading truck manufacturer was. However, in the late 1980s and early 1990s TAM ran into economic difficulties. In 1996 the company went bankrupt and lost then its economic independence. Truck production was, however, but continued from 2001 still under the brand TAM of the successor company Tovarna Vozil Maribor directed by the Slovenian state. Today TVM is part of the Viator & Vektor express company and deals mainly with production and maintenance of mini, midi and airport apron buses under license from MAN Neoplan daughter. In addition to off-road trucks and military vehicles built under license from MAN. In addition to the production and maintenance of truck and bus brand of TAM also includes the creation and revision of truck bodies to the activities of the company TVM.
TVM its brand is TAM today the only manufacturer of commercial vehicles in Slovenia. In the area of chassis for fire trucks TAM is the most widely used brand in Slovenia and also in the remaining states of the former Yugoslavia.
