Towanda is a borough and also the administrative center ( county seat ) of Bradford County in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania.

Geography

Towanda is located at 41 ° 46'13 " north latitude and 76 ° 26'48 " west longitude. At a distance of around 100 kilometers, Wilkes-Barre is located in the southeast. The Susquehanna River flows on the eastern outskirts. The road connecting U.S. Highway 6 runs through the city, U.S. Highway 220, it affects the west.

History

The city was founded in 1828. The name Towanda goes back to the indigenous people and in the Algonquian language means about as much as " burial field ". Originally Towanda was a region with intensive timber industry and there were several sawmills.
