Tower 42

The Tower 42 is a skyscraper in London. It is 183 meters, the second highest in the City of London and the sixth highest in the city.

History

The building was erected in 1971 to 1979 after plans by the offices of the British architect Richard Seifert as the headquarters of the National Westminster Bank and completed in 1980. The former construction costs amounted to 72 million pounds. The floor plan of the building has similarities with the Bank's logo. At the time of its establishment, the skyscraper known as NatWest Tower was very controversial because it was by far the tallest building in the City of London. From a comparable level only the Post Office Tower in London's Camden was. When held near terrorist attack the Provisional Irish Republican Army on 24 April 1993 the skyscraper was badly damaged. After the renovation necessarily required the owner decided to sell. The new owner, a real estate company, named the building in Tower 42 in order ( according to the number of floors ).
