Towns County, Georgia

The Towns County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Hiawassee.

Geography

The County is located in the extreme north of Georgia, bordering North Carolina and has an area of 446 square kilometers, of which 14 square kilometers of water are bordered clockwise to the following counties: Rabun County, Habersham County, White County and Union County.

History

Towns County was formed on March 6, 1856 117 County Georgia from portions of Union County and Rabun County. It was named for George Washington Bonaparte Towns, a governor of Georgia.
