Toyen

Toyen, actually Čermínová Marie ( born September 21, 1902 in Prague, † November 9, 1980 in Paris) was a Czech surrealist painter, illustrator and graphic designer, representative of the Poetism.

Marie Čermínová studied in her hometown at the Art Academy, before she moved to Paris, where she the circle around André Breton joined. Your most important works that anticipate the postwar flow Informal in many and testify at rather small formats of a large plasticity and spatial sensation she created in the period from 1928 until 1938. During the Second World War had to submerge them because their pictures were seen as degenerate. It is considered the most important Czech painter of the 20th century.
