Toyota bB

The bB (Japanese:ビービー) was launched by the Japanese car manufacturer Toyota to market in February 2000. Thus, the popular small cars in Japan Kei cars a van should be added.

Model Overview

First generation

In September 1997, Toyota under its targeting younger customers brand Scion xB model before and put it in Japan in a small production. However, the project was commercially unsuccessful, only about 80 units of the Scion could be sold until January 2000 in Japan. Towards the end of the millennium, Toyota decided to bring the vehicle under its own label on the market. Thus came in February 2000, including the Toyota bB Toyota bB and OPEN DECK on the market. The Scion model has since been destined for export and sold in the United States. All three models were manufactured by the Japanese Kanto Auto Works Iwate Plant in the near the town of Iwate.

To appeal to the widest possible customer base there was the bB and bB OPEN DECK a large number of different model types. So there was the bB many luxury and sports versions. Two body versions of the bB were available. These were the box-shaped 2BOX and the Cabriolet Targa blend called OPEN DECK. The latter formed a separate model series that was almost identical to the 2BOX.

Choose from the following engine types were:

  • 2NZ -FE with a displacement of 1298 cc and an output of 65 kW ( 88 hp )
  • 1NZ -FE with a displacement of 1496 cc and an output of 77 kW (105 hp)

In December 2005, Toyota introduced the second generation bB.

Second generation

Before the Daihatsu Materia ( Europe ) or the identical Daihatsu Coo (Japan), the second generation of the Toyota bB was released in December 2005. At the same time, also destined for America sister model, the Scion xB has been renewed but not based on the Toyota bB QNC2 * (2nd generation) is established, but a barely modified version of the Toyota Corolla Rumion is sold in Japan. 2008 was joined by Subaru DEX as another sister model to do so. The Subaru DEX differs from a few details not from the Daihatsu Materia / COO. The most striking difference is a different front bumper!

The following engines are available:

  • K3 -VE ³ with a displacement of 1297 cm and a power of 68 kW ( 92 hp )
  • 3BR -VE ³ with a displacement of 1495 cm and a power of 80 kW ( 109 hp )
