Toyota Corona#T210 series

The Corona Premio (Japanese:コロナ プレミオ) is presented in February 1996 Model of the Japanese car manufacturer Toyota and successor of the Toyota Corona T190 series. Unlike its predecessors, the new model has been designed and offered as a subcompact. Available was the new Corona Premio only as a four-door. Many components have been taken from the 1998 Avensis presented.

Airbags for driver and front passenger, ABS, ESP, radio with CD player and the three-point seat were standard. Among the most popular optional equipment included the sunroof, automatic climate control and one of the sports packages.

The following engines were available:

  • 4A -FE with 1587 cc displacement and an output of 105 hp (77 kW)
  • 7A -FE with 1762 cc displacement and an output of 115 hp (92 kW)
  • 2C with 1998 cc and a power output of 128 hp (94 kW)
  • 3S -FE with 1998 cc and a power output of 145 hp ( 107 kW )
  • 3S -FSE with 1998 cc displacement and an output of 190 hp (140 kW)
  • 3C - TE 2164 cc and an output of 131 PS (96 kW)

After testing the GOA ( National Centre for Road Safety ) in March 2003 received the Corona Premio devastating reviews. The result of some crash tests showed that neither the context nor the body of the passengers offered adequate protection. The side impact protection had not fulfilled its task. The airbags are not fitted to the car room correctly so that an additional hazard of all inmates there. Other deficiencies were found in the rear lights. These were not their necessary effect, according to the GOA. The lights are difficult to see through the dark to rear lights from a distance. In a detailed test GOA also criticized the climate control, which was set very cold and it could not be regulated over 20 ° C. In a public call Toyota was then asked to comply with the necessary corrections.

Without changes in the Corona Premio was finally built further and got in April 1998 a new engine of choice accompanied by:

  • 3C -TE (TDI ) with 2196 cc and a power output of 176 hp (129 kW)

The new diesel version is equipped as standard with a 5- speed automatic transmission. In the other model versions, this was optional from now on. As standard, a manual 4 -speed transmission was specified for these. The petrol engine, meanwhile, were converted to direct injection without which the power was changed.

After 44 years and five months, the production of the Toyota Coronas ended in December 2001 final. Until then 10.788 million units of the model series Corona, Corona Line, Corona Mark II and Corona exive were built.
