Toyota Curren

The Curren is a notchback coupe of the Japanese car manufacturer Toyota and was produced for the home market from 1994 to 1998. A limited number of Curren was distributed among other things, in the Caribbean, Southeast Asia, South Africa and the USA. Curren was the predecessor of the produced in small series 2000VX. Sister model were the Celica and Carina ED.

The model was based on the Celica in the U.S. version. To select the Curren stood in the five interior versions XS, XS Tourist, ZS, FS and TS. Where the interior with FS, XS and ZS resembled the other model versions were equipped with their own dashboard and instrument panels which differed from each other not only in appearance, but each had a different arrangement of the instruments.

FS and XS were equipped with a four-cylinder engine of the type 3S -FE and a power output of 103 kW had (140 hp). The ZS was available in two transmission options. The engine presented here a 3S -GE Twin Cam sports with an output of 125 kW ( 170 hp) for the automatic transmission or 132 kW ( 180 hp ) with manual gearbox. The TS, however, was strong with the 92 kW ( 125 hp ) 4S -FE available.

The sports version Curren GT -FOUR first appeared in July 1996 and was delivered with a 5 - speed manual or on request with a 4- speed automatic transmission. Unlike the other models of the Curren - GT -FOUR had permanent all-wheel drive. At the same time, its sports TRD model was set up, which was equipped with the 132 kW 3S -GE. From the TRD model, only 300 units per month were produced.

First changes to the Curren took place in October 1995. Thus, power steering and driver's airbag were standard. Exterior changes made ​​Toyota on the bumper and missed the Curren new taillights. Launched in July 1996 TRD model also offered a front passenger airbag, ABS and tinted windows as standard. With the end of production in December 1998 by then 44 686 units of Curren were produced.
