Trabaccolo

The Trabakel (Italian trabaccolo, also Trabakk ) was an Adriatic, especially Dalmatian zweimastiges sailing ship of the 17th and 18th centuries.

The ship was used as a general purpose gliders for coastal shipping and fishing between the islands and the mainland.

The special feature of the Trabakel was the sail with so-called Halbrahsegeln. As Halbrahsegel large square sails are called, the pile of poles and only a one-sided frame ( half- frame ), similar to a horizontal standing gaff were driven. About this sail was located at each pole a small yard topsail. At the bowsprit a large jib was used. The length of the vehicles was about 30 meters and the width is 6 meters. This coastal sailors had a continuous deck between the masts. The stem was bent incident.

This type of ship is similar to the smaller Brazzera and Peligo in the same distribution area.

The Peligo was a special variant of the Trabakel. The ship was a two-master with two lug sails and two jibs. She had a topmast on the aft mast, a mizzen and a triangular topsail. This is the most common form of the Adriatic coast sailor. Until the early 20th century it was used. The length of the vessels was about 17 meters and the width is 6 meters. The depth was about 2 meters. The crew consisted of four seamen. The most common charge food, wood, live animals and cargo are listed.
